As the stay-at-home order in Colorado lifts, and a safer-at-home order goes into effect, you may be wondering what you can do now.
Well, in a recent blog, we outlined five activities you could do inside your home, such as:
- Keeping your body moving
- Continuing to learn
- Cooking and baking
- Getting creative - crafting, coloring, writing, etc
- Touring a museum virtually
These activities are fun and will undoubtedly get you moving and thinking; however, we understand that having a running list of additional activities is also helpful.
Continue reading for a list of activities you could do while the safer-at-home order is in effect and well after you have the ability to go back into the public.
If you own your home or live in an apartment, there are many home maintenance projects you can start now that hardware farm supply and building material stores are open. These projects could include:
- Inspecting your air conditioner: With the summer heat, you don’t want to be inside without some cool air.
- Cleaning your outdoor grill: We love grilling as much as the next person, but what we hate is having a dirty grill. Take this time to research how to clean your grill!
GO TO THE PARK
While many parks in Craig, Colorado, have been shut down during the stay-at-home order, it may be possible under the safer-at-home order that parks are open. We recommend checking the local park for open signs before entering, but this can be a great way to get out, get some sun and relax somewhere that isn’t your house!
PICK UP INGREDIENTS AT YOUR LOCAL OPEN-AIR FARMER’S MARKET
Located in the Alice Pleasant Park in downtown Craig is the open-air Farmer’s Market. The market is open from June to August on Fridays from 12 PM to 6 PM.
Contact Chrissy Winters at 970-274-1792 to ask if the market is open to the public or if you are able to order to pick up. Even a quick walk to pick up ingredients will be sure to brighten anyone’s day!
MAKE A TIME CAPSULE
2020 has been a heck of a year...for everyone. While the experience may not have been the most wonderful, it is a year to remember. Take the time to make a time capsule with some of your favorite memories of 2020 so far. This could include:
- A new skill you learned while the stay-at-home order was in effect
- Recipes that you made while at home
- Pictures of you and your family during this time
- Journal entries of your experience
Not only will this help you remember some of the good things that did happen, but in a couple of years, you can get the capsule out and show people your memories of the last couple of months.
LOOK UP AT THE STARS
One thing we love about being in the area is the amazing star gazing we can get done! We recommend finding the perfect spot on your walk around the park or find an area in your yard and set up a blanket during the night.
Not only can star gazing give you perspective on the world, but it can also give you time to reflect on what you have learned.
RETURN TO GROUP THERAPY & OTHER APPOINTMENTS
If you are an individual that has been in an addiction treatment program such as an intensive outpatient program or group therapy, then you most likely have been participating in virtual appointments.
As your groups open back up, you’ll be able to attend meetings while maintaining social distancing. Not only can this spark motivation to continue treatment and groups, but it can provide a personal connection that you may have lacked during the stay-at-home order.
